On October 16, the 25th China International Wine & Spirits Expo officially opened at the Wuhan International Expo Center. Capitalizing on Wuhan's strategic position as a central transportation hub, this premier industry event marks the second consecutive year the national-level expo has been hosted in the city. Themed "World-Class Wines, Shared Glory," the three-day exhibition runs through October 18, aiming to establish an international platform for global exchange and collaboration within the wine and spirits sector.
Serving as the largest national professional trade show for alcoholic beverage consumer products in China in 2026, this year's expo spans an impressive 60,000 square meters and attracts approximately 800 exhibitors. The event brings together renowned domestic and international beverage companies, with exhibits comprehensively covering baijiu, beer, wine, fruit wine, and the entire supporting supply chain for production. Ranging from demonstrations of traditional brewing techniques to showcases of modern smart manufacturing equipment, the expo not only fulfills the professional B2B matchmaking needs of the industry but also significantly enhances the visitor experience for the general public.
At the opening ceremony, Song Shuyu, Chairman of the China Alcoholic Drinks Industry Association, drew on the classic Chinese allusion of "high mountains and flowing water meeting a kindred spirit" to highlight the profound bond between the expo and Wuhan. He noted that the alcoholic beverages industry is currently navigating a phase of industrial restructuring, consumption transformation, and intense competition in a mature, stock-driven market, while simultaneously benefiting from a favorable policy environment. Standing at the new starting point of the 15th Five-Year Plan, the industry is poised for significant development opportunities. He urged the sector to build upon culture, technology, quality, consumer experience, and social responsibility, champion the concept of "drink in moderation, live with joy," and drive the Chinese alcoholic beverages industry toward premiumization, intelligent manufacturing, and green development.
Distinguished guests, including representatives from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to China, also delivered speeches. They expressed hopes that the alcoholic beverages industry would play a greater role in industrial upgrading and in fostering cultural, economic, and trade exchanges between China and the rest of the world. They emphasized the need to further promote Chinese wine and spirits culture globally and to deepen international cooperation in production capacity and brand development.
This year's expo is marked by numerous highlights and frequent innovative initiatives. The "Ticket Stub Economy" initiative was officially launched on-site, allowing visitors to use their expo admission tickets as vouchers for city-wide consumption. Beyond exploring the exhibition, attendees can enjoy exclusive discounts on dining, retail, and cultural tourism, effectively extending expo-driven spending into the city's streets and neighborhoods and vigorously stimulating urban consumer vitality. Concurrently, the "Integration and Promotion of Chu Wine and Chu Cuisine" project was inaugurated to foster the synergistic development of Hubei's fine wines and local Chu cuisine, leveraging the fusion of food and beverage to promote Jingchu culture. Additionally, the Association released an industry report on new-style beverages, highlighting emerging drinking trends among the youth with a focus on lower-alcohol, health-conscious, and personalized consumption. Looking ahead, the Association plans to develop relevant industry standards for new-style beverages to guide the sector's standardized development.
The exhibition halls of this year's China International Wine & Spirits Expo have been meticulously designed to feature an immersive, traditional Chinese-style wine alley. A continuous rotation of events—including roaming NPCs in traditional Hanfu, traditional drinking game challenges, and mixology carnivals—perfectly blends traditional culture with modern trends. Visitors can not only sample and purchase a wide array of premium wines and spirits but also enjoy interactive activities and photo opportunities, fully immersing themselves in traditional beverage culture. Many local attendees noted that being able to view world-class beverages and participate in interactive games right on their doorstep provides an incredibly engaging experience.
Beaming with joy and carrying a bag full of purchased beverages, Ms. Wang, a local resident from the Qingshan district, shared her excitement: "I played a few traditional games, like pitch-pot and drinking game challenges, and won plenty of activity vouchers, which I redeemed for several bottles of Baijiu and Huangjiu. It’s highly entertaining, and even those who don't drink can come and enjoy the atmosphere." Her sentiments echo those of many visitors, as the vibrant and highly interactive atmosphere on the show floor has turned the expo into a premier weekend leisure destination for locals.
Throughout the event, a series of industry activities will be held, including the Distributors Conference and the Responsible Drinking Awareness Week. The expo operates on a dual track: facilitating B2B negotiations and precise supply-demand matchmaking for enterprises, while simultaneously opening its doors to the general public to promote beverage literacy. This "trade and public" dual-track model leverages the exhibition to drive urban consumption and support the high-quality development of the alcoholic beverages industry, injecting fresh vitality into the economic and cultural growth of Wuhan and the nation as a whole.
