Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated the 12th National Handloom Day Special Handloom Products Exhibition at Kalaivanar Arangam in Chennai, running from August 8 to 13 for seven days.
He also launched the Vetri Thari new sales outlet operated by Co-optex in collaboration with the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT). Eleven state-level best weavers and designers received awards totaling 222,500 rupees.
The exhibition brings together handloom cooperatives from Tamil Nadu, West Bengal (Tantuja), Madhya Pradesh (Mrignayani) and other states, showcasing Kanchipuram silk, Coimbatore cotton yarn and other renowned varieties. It serves as both a national cultural celebration and an important traditional textile trade platform.
