On August 18, 2026, the 21st Cross-Strait (Sanming) Forestry Expo and the 2026 Yong'an Bamboo Expo officially opened in Yong'an City, Fujian Province. Centered on the theme "Replacing Plastics with Bamboo for a Better Life," the expo showcases the latest achievements in the integrated development of the forestry sector across the Taiwan Strait. Running until August 23, the event presents the industry with a premier green, tech-driven, and innovative forestry exhibition.

Technological innovation is the core driver for the high-quality development of the forestry industry. At the opening ceremony, the China Bamboo Industry Association released five cutting-edge technological achievements under the "Bamboo for Plastics" initiative. These include a bamboo-based tiltrotor UAV, key manufacturing technologies for degradable bamboo fiber-reinforced polymer composites, fully biodegradable bamboo-based novel materials, key technologies and applications for preparing bamboo sand barriers, and Jingang bamboo pallets. The release of these frontier technologies not only broadens the pathways for innovative development under the "Bamboo for Plastics" initiative but also brings new opportunities for Sanming to extend its industrial chain and promote the high-quality development of the bamboo industry by leveraging its abundant bamboo resources. Meanwhile, industry-academia-research collaboration has yielded fruitful results. The Resource Information Institute of the Chinese Academy of Forestry, Fujian Liangshan Ecological Products Trading Co., Ltd., and the Sanming Forestry Bureau jointly signed an agreement on the transformation and application of research achievements. Additionally, the International Center for Bamboo and Rattan signed a science and technology cooperation agreement with the Sanming Municipal Government, successfully unlocking new tracks for forestry and bamboo industry cooperation and injecting strong technological momentum into the local forestry economy.

Practicing green and low-carbon concepts is a major highlight of this year's expo. To fully implement the requirements for green exhibition, the organizers innovatively purchased 200 tons of "Fujian Jinson Forestry Carbon Credits," fully offsetting the carbon emissions generated during the event and successfully achieving carbon neutrality for the expo. In addition, "Tanxiaoyuan," Sanming's local digital carbon sink platform, was officially launched as a WeChat Mini Program during the expo, further promoting the digitalization and popularization of forestry carbon sinks and demonstrating Sanming's active exploration and sense of responsibility in the field of ecological civilization.

In terms of exhibition layout, the expo has meticulously planned diversified exhibition spaces. The site features the Sanming Premium Bamboo Home Furnishings Pavilion, pavilions for various counties, cities, and districts, and the International Center for Bamboo and Rattan Technological Achievements Pavilion. It also sets up exhibition areas for cities across the province, the Forestry Industry Joint Exhibition Area, and enterprise exhibition zones for various counties, cities, and districts. Additionally, 11 bamboo shoot and bamboo food tasting zones are thoughtfully arranged to allow visitors to fully experience the charm of bamboo culture. At Zhudu Square, a dedicated exhibition area for intelligent agricultural and forestry equipment has been set up, gathering top enterprises from inside and outside the province to highlight the application of new quality productive forces in forestry. During the expo, the organizers will also host a series of featured events, including the bamboo industry investment promotion conference, a dedicated B2B matchmaking session for bamboo shoot and bamboo products, the health and wellness industry investment promotion conference, the green finance innovation signing ceremony, and exchanges on intelligent agricultural and forestry equipment. These events build a high-end platform for government-enterprise communication, trade cooperation, and technological exchange, comprehensively supporting the high-quality development of the forestry and bamboo industries.

This year's expo has gathered a strong industry lineup, attracting a total of 224 enterprises, including 70 from outside the province such as Xinjiang, Beijing, Heilongjiang, and Taiwan. The exhibition categories broadly cover the entire industry chain, including forestry and bamboo processing, forest food, under-forest economy, and intelligent agricultural and forestry equipment. This effectively broadens external cooperation channels and product markets for the industry, demonstrating the huge potential for the coordinated development of the forestry sector across the Taiwan Strait.

Since its inception in 2005, the Cross-Strait (Sanming) Forestry Expo has been successfully held for 20 editions. As a well-known professional exhibition for forestry exchange and cooperation in China, the expo has not only strongly promoted the high-quality development of Sanming's forestry industry but also played an irreplaceable and positive role in deepening cross-strait integrated development, promoting rural revitalization, and advancing ecological civilization. Looking ahead, Sanming will continue to leverage the expo platform to cultivate the green economy and write a new chapter in the modernization of the forestry industry.
